I broke it!

I broke my computer. I stepped on the monitor part of my laptop, and now it looks like glass superimposed over scorched paper. I can't believe I did this! Everything is on that laptop!

I hope they can fix it. Really. I can't believe I did this!

Hey! Does it still run except sans screen?

If so you should be able to plug a regular computer monitor into the laptop (most have a switch I guess to switch between using an external monitor and the "internal" monitor) and you should be good to go.

That way you could at least retrieve everything ON the laptop! Of course assuming you can still turn it on and operate it...

I second what bezzie said. Breaking the monitor part shouldn't hurt anything that is saved.

Oh no!
Thirding getting an external monitor.
It might be worth it to see if the laptop's under warranty and if the warranty covers the monitor.

If you need to get your data off the laptop and onto another machine, maybe you can hook the laptop up as a peripheral to the other machine.

Even if it is under warrenty they don't fix those "oops" breaks unless you have something like Dell's Complete Care coverage where drops and oops's are covered.

If it's not covered, it can be fixed but the LCD screens are pricey! They cost almost as much as new laptop (about $600). Using a monitor is a great option for now. Man, what a bummer. Hopefully you can get it fixed soon! I'd hate be without my laptop.

Yikes! I hope you're back up and running soon!

And Bezzie's answer is exactly what popped in my head when I read your post!

Oh no! But, like Bezzie said, if it's just the monitor, the hard drive should be fine.

Maybe new laptop screens can be pricey, but go to E-Bay and see. Go directly to E-Bay. Do not pass GO, do not collect $200.00 Go directly to E-Bay!! I'm sure you can get a new screen there. I've done it. They come with or without the necessary wires. Good luck!

Wow. Um, that's freakin' scary. I don't know what I'd do without my laptop. I hope they get it all okay.
